Container shipments handled by major shipping lines on the trades between ten Asian countries and territories (Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia) excluding mainland China and South Korea amounted to 1.071 million TEUs in June 2010, representing a 7.4% increase compared with 997,000 TEUs for the same month in 2009, thanks to a recovery in production and expansion of domestic demands in Asian countries and a rebound from last year.

Exports from Japan to the Asian nations rose 10.1% from a year earlier to 193,000 TEUs while imports from those countries showed a modest year-on-year increase of 6.5% at 200,000 TEUs in June.

For the first half of the year, intra-Asia box traffic expanded by 15.9% on year to 5.467 million TEUs. Outbound volume from Japan increased 16.9% from the same period in 2009 to 1.172 million TEUs while inbound boxes climbed 10.45 year on year to 1.219 million TEUs.
